They say that we have to know sadness, that we have to know pain
We have to accept hurt and rejection from those we loved
Before we know love? Do we? And should we?
We both have I know but I wonder why still
My heart broke without an answer
And my mind ….
My mind wanders down English country lanes
Rain falling like tears from a weeping sky
Darkness in the daytime. Sad at rainbows spangled light
As clouds gain form. Tinged with silver sunbeams
And the rain stops. Just the dripping of raindrops from old oaks
And that golden sun comes out as a blackbird starts to sing
And you did that. You became the early evening sunshine
You became the soft breeze and the way for me, a bird singing
And it is hard sometimes. I know. To understand
We become used to uncaring. To peoples selfishness
Towards us and to our feelings
And what did we do? We made ourselves the guilty ones
Didn’t we. We suffered the pain while others laughed
Played with words. Used them against us.
While we blame ourselves.
What is the point of innocence and truth?
When all the love is repaid with scorn
But then I saw tears on your cheek and I found my answer
I knew then that you were the one. The only one
You were so much like me
So much love to give so little needed in return
That is us. And we found each other
We rose together above others thoughtlessness
We found so much love in words and emotion
You are me. I am you. So complex but so simple after all
You think. You have that ability to use your mind
To inspire. To be alive.
