When I first met you my lover I built a castle,
In those early sun kissed days … so long ago
Its walls were firm and strong, for I built them that way.
I built them solidly, I built them sound
In the days of love warm sheets and latte kisses
No one could assault that castle mound.
The stone I used was my love for you, and your love for me,
The mortar I believed would set solid was my trust
My belief in you, in us. As certain as the sun.
And we were Leystan and Maven, star-crossed, in love
Under moon and stars, we were strong, we were one.
And we moved on over the years to upheaval, relocation
Storms rose and fell, and I built my second castle, stronger than the first.
As before, the stone was our love for each other …such great love
The mortar again was my trust in you, but I added hope to bond it stronger.
And again, we held its strength in our hearts. We believed. I believed in you.
And recently, in latter years as the times changed,
I built our final castle. It was as before, strong, sturdy, built to endure
But I added faith, faith in us. And patience … yes patience
For in time I could provide us with our own place in the sun.
And the end of our uncertainty
Our golden home of fulfilment of our dreams.
But through all of these castles I had made a mistake, a design flaw
I guarded us well. My heart was always true to you
But I had planned to protect us from external forces
… and I never believed they would be destroyed from within.
Your betrayal destroyed the mortar, trust and belief fell
And with them followed hope as the castles fell
And along with those castles … you destroyed me.
The pieces lay around me now, scattered and worthless
Trust, hope and dreams … all washed away
All gone. In days they were all ruined, mortar washed away
But the stones still lay there. Forlornly, but they are unbreakable
… as is my love… until the end of time.
