NaPoWriMo 2013 Day 20. And now, the prompt. (As always, the prompt is optional). Today I challenge you to write a poem that uses at least five of the following words.
Well I decided to go for it and use them all. Let me know what you think.
My baby is miraculous
I love her willowy grace
I am her little fat owl
Her ghost of bilious face.
I loved to run my fingers
Through her copper coloured hair
Mine’s more salt and pepper
And thinning too, that’s fair.
I loved our days together
Especially by the sunlit beach
Seaweed squeezed between our toes
Quahog for lunch … dipped in melted cheese
We often talked for hours there
I’d be full of rodomontade
But memories are so elusive
Like my ego they gently fade
Twice I asked her for her hand
She said that was absurd
And so she let me down again
Like an injured black cowbird.
Yes I was short-sighted.
A myopic pained Cyclops
And like a dunderhead
I thought she was the tops.
But I could never give up
On my non-pareil so svelte
I used words like new artillery
So true and so heartfelt.
She said I was too mercurial
I’d end up in the gutter
Even as we ate our favourite meal
Truffle soup, hot rolls … a curl of butter
She moved herself upwind of me
As I chewed a clove of garlic
She’d squander no more time with me
The conversation turned quite arctic
And at last I had to give her up
My words stopped like a broken generator
She would abscond with my heart
But I never did berate her.
