NaPoWriMo Day 18 and I like today’s prompt after initial misgivings. Today’s prompt challenges us to write a poem that begins and ends with the same word. You could try for something in media res, that begins and ends with “and,” for example. Or maybe “if.” Or perhaps you could really challenge yourself and begin/end your poem with a six-dollar word like “antidisestablishmentarianism.” (Just kidding!) Whatever word you choose, I hope you have fun with it!
Actually for today’s prompt I have used 2 words instead of one, If Only. They start the poem and end it as well as being used for the start of every other line.
Enjoy.
… IF ONLY
If only you could read my mind
You’d know how much I feel.
If only you could feel my love
You’d know how much it’s real
…..
If only I could say these words
That run around my brain
If only I could get them out
Express them without pain
…..
If only these eyes could show you
What they truly see
If only you could feel my heart
Which beats for you and me
…..
If only you could read my words
And see within them that I’m lonely
If only you could understand
My love for you … If only.
