Well tis NaPoWriMo 2013 day 16 and today’s prompt was another non-starter for me I’m afraid. Lots to do today also so here’s another raid on my ‘Unfinished’ folder. NaPoWriMo has actually been of great value in this department enabling me to thin down all those poems and ideas from the past that were never completed. The bare bones of this poem were from a few years back but I have added to it and played with it. I must admit that I quite like it now.
CASTLES IN THE SKY.
Sometimes I sit outside on warm summer evenings
Sunset … epitaph of the day
And I think such thoughts
Such sad painful thoughts
As I look above to heaven.
There are no gods there, but I see
Great castles in a pink puffed sky.
Giants formed of clouds
Those dragons. They burn. They hurl fire but they fade
Like love’s tender promises.
And I see your face, smiling
From so far away, so high above
Feel your fingers in mine
But like morning mist the feeling fades
And yes… tears come. Sobs from my heart.
At things lost. At memories.
An orange sun sinks in the sky
And I know you feel its warmth too
I feel it touching your skin, I touched it too
And a breeze gently stirs. Bending flowers before it
I feel it on my face, drying tears
Brushing my lips, lips that kissed yours.
